10th Annual Tartan Day Parade with NY Giants' Lawrence Tynes
Saturday, April 5, 2:00pm
New York, NY

The National New York Tartan Day Committee (NYTDC) is hosting the Tenth Annual Tartan Day Parade on Saturday, April 5th, which celebrates Scottish and Scottish-American history and culture. Beginning at 2:00 PM, the parade starts on Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue) at 46th Street and ends at 58th Street. The parade winds its way up the historical boulevard past Rockefeller Center and the world famous Radio City Music Hall and finishes just opposite Carnegie Hall, named for the renowned Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist.

NYTDC President Gregg Begg states: “This year’s parade marks our tenth year anniversary in celebrating Scottish heritage. To mark this exciting milestone, we are thrilled that Lawrence Tynes –Scotland native and Super Bowl Champion -- will be Grand Marshal for this festive celebration.”

This year’s parade draws participants from Scotland, the United States, Switzerland, Canada and Pakistan. Unique characteristics of the annual march include geographically diverse musicians from all parts of the globe. In addition, individual pipers are partnered with others to form massed bands. Also unique to this parade is the contingency of Scottish Terriers and Westies who proudly march up Sixth Avenue.

The NYTDC will greet several members of Scottish Government who travel to New York to celebrate this occasion, including First Minister Alex Salmond, Presiding Officer of Parliament Alex Fergusson and several other Members of Scottish Parliament.

The parade is the finale to a week long series of events that celebrate Scottish heritage, all coordinated by the NYTDC. Beginning on March 31st with the Scotland Run in Central Park, sponsored by Visit Scotland and NYRRC, the week includes music events, theater, a celeidh and the Tartan Ball.
