Paul Lawrie may have been the only Scot in Europe’s Ryder Cup team but he came with the Tartan Army were in force at Medinah. Members of Stonehaven Golf Club, where Paul is a life member, sent their own team. Lawrie signed the Stonehaven boys’ Saltire when they caught up with him during a practice round.
Europe captain José María Olazábal has said the key behind their great escape over USA was the crucial afternoon session on Saturday which saw his team rally to claim two late points. Europe produced a stunning final-day comeback to win the Ryder Cup at a shell-shocked Medinah. The United States required only four-and-a-half points from the 12 on offer, but the Europeans secured eight and a half to clinch a historic 14½-13½ win.
